Tango in Ashland ... The Good, the Bad & THE UGLY
« on: August 15, 2009, 08:30:30 PM »
Well I wonder if anyone ever reads these posts except for Nathan....

Here goes: Lots of Good, Some Bad and well the Ugly is just plain Ugly!
The Good
1) Ashland is awash in Tango knowledge and Talent with senior Tangueros like Clay etc.
2) There is a small but dedicated core or serious Tango dancers who actually practice and care about dancing Argentine Tango well.
3) The Studio is an exceptional space/place to dance Tango.
4) This Tango Coop provides a weekly focus on fundamentals of Argentine Tango.
5) Tango festivals: Grape Escape and Turkey Tango.
6) SOU Tango club.

The Bad
1) There are some bad teachers and no great teachers teaching Tango in Ashland.
2) Many Ashland Tango dancers are deluded (about their Tango level and ability) and most tend to think they are much better than they actually are.  i.e. If you can't maintain your balance and be responsible for your own axis.... you are NOT an Intermediate dancer!
oh and just because you can.... doesn't make you one either.
3) The Studio has not reached it's full potential as a hub for Tango.

The Ugly
1) Politics and control have poisoned some of the relationships in this small community. So much so that the community is fragmented into factions and their is serious distrust and dislike among individuals.
Example: If I disagree with someone on a philosophical point about teaching Tango, or maybe just becasue I post this.... someone takes it personally and might give me dirty looks or even worse... talk trash about me.  Well not just me, you and people you know.  It is just plain ugly that anyone in this small community should or can be made to feel unwelcome because they disagree about teaching or dancing Tango.  Ugly is ugly!
